Need a hand?

Pip’s got enthusiasm. We’ve got instructions.

Start with a thought

Install Spitball through TestFlight, then open it to record or type. Save your thought and add a photo or place if you want more context. No Spitball account is required.

Set up your Action button

On an iPhone with an Action button, open Spitball’s setup guide. In iPhone Settings, choose Action Button, swipe to Shortcut, and choose Spitball’s capture shortcut.

Press and hold the Action button to start recording. Press and hold again to finish and save. You can always capture inside the app, too.

A transcript is missing

Your recording can still be saved when transcription doesn’t finish. Open the thought, play the audio to check it, and retry transcription. Check speech permissions in iPhone Settings and leave Spitball open while it works.

The first transcription may need to download Apple’s speech model. Support varies by device and language. Spitball keeps your recording if local transcription is unavailable, with no cloud transcription fallback.

Turn on iCloud

Open Spitball Settings → iCloud Sync and follow the prompts. Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled and use the same Apple Account on connected devices. Leave Spitball open briefly to allow syncing.

Capture works offline. Sync catches up when a connection is available. Deletions can sync too, so export a copy before removing anything you want to keep.

Share or keep a copy

Open a thought and tap Share. Choose your format, then choose where to send it. Text, images and standard exported files can be opened without Spitball. You can include the recording when you want the original audio.

Export important thoughts before deleting the app or its data. We don’t hold a server copy that we can restore for you.

Change permissions or reminders

You can change microphone, speech, camera, location and notification permissions in iPhone Settings. Optional usage sharing is controlled separately in Spitball under Settings → Storage & privacy.

Still stuck?

Email nik@nik.co, or open TestFlight → Spitball → Send Beta Feedback. Include your app version and what you were trying to do. Please leave private thoughts out of screenshots unless they’re needed to explain the issue.
