Spitball saves your thought library on your iPhone by default. Your recordings, transcripts, photos, and saved places are not uploaded to Spitball’s servers. You can choose to enable iCloud Sync in Settings using your own Apple Account.

Local storage is the default

You do not need a Spitball account to capture a thought. Your library lives in the app’s storage on your device. Keep this in mind before deleting the app or replacing your phone: a local-only library needs a backup or export you can rely on.

Your device’s Apple backup settings are separate from Spitball’s iCloud Sync setting. Review both if you want to understand where Apple may keep a backup of your app data.

iCloud Sync is your choice

Enable iCloud Sync in Spitball’s Settings if you want your library to travel through your iCloud account. Sync depends on your Apple Account, available storage, connectivity, and iCloud delivery. Give it time to finish and check the status before assuming a new recording has arrived elsewhere.

Sync is not a separate archive of every historical version. Changes and deletions can propagate. Export something important if you need an independent copy.

Transcription stays on device

Spitball uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition. It does not fall back to sending your recording to a cloud transcription service. Recognition depends on supported languages and available language resources, and transcripts can contain mistakes. The original audio lets you check what you actually said.

Optional analytics are separate from your thoughts

If you choose to enable app usage analytics, Spitball sends limited usage and diagnostic information through PostHog. Those events do not include your thought text, recordings, photos, or saved locations. The privacy policy describes the fields and controls.

Apple’s TestFlight beta feedback and diagnostics are separate from Spitball’s optional analytics. Review what you attach when sending beta feedback.

Sharing is a deliberate action

When you share a thought, you choose the format and destination. If you include audio, that recording goes to the recipient or service you selected. Check the content before sending it, just as you would with any other private note.
